Presenter(s): Maggie Royer – Education & Outreach Coordinator Women’s Advocates
Maggie Royer is the Education and Outreach Coordinator at Women’s Advocates. Women’s Advocates’ mission is to eliminate violence in the lives of women, children and families. Women’s Advocates is a safe place where victims/survivors of all backgrounds and cultures can escape domestic violence and begin to heal.
Women's Advocates provides educational trainings on domestic violence, sexual violence, human trafficking, reproductive coercion, and more to various community groups, including health practitioners, schools, universities, churches, and social services organizations. Our mission is to prevent violence against women and children by making our communities aware of the prevalence and impacts of domestic violence, as well as intervention and prevention strategies and local resources. We were the first domestic violence shelter in the United States, and we have worked to spread awareness of domestic violence every day since 1972.
Today, Women’s Advocates provides shelter and services to an average of 50 women and children daily, helps dozens of callers to the crisis line daily, and educates students and professionals about domestic abuse prevention and services.
