Hope, Resilience and Second Chances



Travel the journey of gangs, drugs and multiple felony convictions through lost second changes with Jason and find out how he ultimately ended up with college degrees, national speaking engagements and a career as a criminal justice educator.


o   Understand the pathways into the criminal justice system and  how  we interrupt those pathways

o   Knowledge of the barriers to getting out of the criminal justice system

o   The role professionals play in creating, preventing or overcoming these barriers

o   What does reducing recidivism look like, how can it be achieved

o   Some of the work currently being done around criminal justice reform to prevent recidivism and reduce MN prison population

Presenter(s):  Jason Sole

Jason has been a criminal justice educator for eight years and will become a Visiting Professor at Hamline University in the Fall. He is a national keynote speaker and trainer. Alongside his career, he is the president of the Minneapolis NAACP and is creating liberation programs for people of color. In addition, Sole was a 2013 Bush Fellow who focused on reducing the recidivism rate among juveniles throughout the state of Minnesota. He is currently traveling the country discussing his memoir, From Prison to Ph.D.: A Memoir of Hope, Resilience, and Second Chances.
