Minnesota Community Corrections Association Presents:
The Barriers of Background Checks
Justin Terrell, Tommy Franklin and Justice 4 All continue to engage communities impacted by the justice system to strive for a fair economy for all, specifically related to fair hiring practices. In 2017, Justice 4 All wants to hold businesses accountable for hiring formerly incarcerated and convicted people who are qualified and ready to work. Tommy Franklin will further the conversation on how to achieve more economic equity in communities that are locked out.
Presenter(s): Tommy Franklin, Justice 4 All Organizer
Tommy idolizes the late great Gordon Parks, who shares his Minnesota roots. Like Parks was, Tommy is impassioned to fight poverty and inequality, and to propel the disenfranchised beyond the boundaries of race and class. He desires to help expand a groundswell of Minnesotan voices to douse the flames of injustice with conviction and zeal.
Tommy’s curiosity in the ways of worldly intrigue has taken him across the globe to several countries, including Tanzania, where he taught computer classes to high school students in a rural village. Simultaneously, he rose funding and employed local villagers to build a basketball court on school grounds, giving the kids an outlet. Tommy also had the great pleasure of coaching basketball teams in France and Norway.
Having personal experience navigating oppressive barriers embedded throughout the justice system, Tommy embarks upon his role as our Justice 4 All Organizer with a destined compassion and enthusiasm.
